Foldable Hotel Rooms???? Yep!

We've covered pop-up and recyclable hotels on a few occasions already, and now a new French company has come up with a foldable hotel room designed for use at large, temporary events.

Founded in late 2007, Abilmo offers temporary hotel rooms 12 square meters in size with wood flooring, wood furniture and private bathrooms including toilet, shower and hot water. Featuring cloth-hung ceilings and low-voltage lighting, the units also offer thermal and acoustic insulation along with individual heating and air-conditioning. The French-made rooms are instantly available to create a pop-up hotel for use inside or outside at such events as festivals, seminars and sports events lasting anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Just 4.40m x 2.38m x 4.68m in size when folded, they require no crane to erect—Abilmo's staff can set up as many as 25 per day. Both interiors and exteriors can be customized to reflect any corporate image, and extra services such as catering, network video and extra security are also available.

Given how often the demand for hotel rooms outstrips supply at events around the world, this one's virtually guaranteed to find an appreciative market among events organizers, stadiums and hotels themselves. One to partner with in your neck of the woods?

Meet Marissa

Marissa is our new Marketing intern for the summer!

She was referred to Shea by former employee, Betsy, who could not say enough great things about how much she loved working at Shea.

Marissa is a Junior at The University of Denver.
She won't be around for her birthday (April 25th) but you can think of her when we are back in the cold weather.

Her favorite color is pink, but also likes red.

On the literary front, she loved The Kite Runner.

Her hero is probably her mom. "She always finds the good within a bad situation and keeps me positive!"

Marissa has one 16-year-old brother named Chase, parents (Warren & Sandy) and a 3-year-old golden retriever named Lucy. She also has a boyfriend named Ben, a recent graduate of DU.

We welcome her to Shea and hopes she has a great summer!

Shea's latest restaurant design, Flame - Cooking with Fire, now open

Shea partnered with Hemisphere Restaurant Partners—named by Mpls. St. Paul magazine as “Restaurateurs of the Year” in 2007—on Flame - Cooking With Fire, a brand new restaurant concept which opened to the public on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at The Plaza at Rosedale Center. Celebrating the tradition of "Cooking with Fire," Flame creates a distinctive experience centered on the theme of fire, where the food and its preparation, as well as the environment, consists of various elements of fire.

The menu includes a large variety of flavorful meat dishes that use fire in the preparation, whether they are smoked, grilled, fried or spit-roasted. A burning torch at the entrance, open-flame sconces, a theater kitchen with wood burning rotisserie and grill, and a massive one-of-a-kind fire feature adds drama, warmth and excitement. The interior takes on a casual warehouse loft feel, with rich colors, brick, warm woods and glass garage doors that open to a large outdoor patio with a raging fire pit. Flame has seating for over 200 guests, and the dining areas include oversized community tables for families or large groups looking to gather in a casual and energetic environment. A full bar is available with an extensive list of specialty beers.

Hemisphere Restaurant Partners is a restaurant development company based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. HRP currently owns and operates downtown Minneapolis restaurants including Mission American Kitchen & Bar, Atlas Grill and Clubroom, Good to Go Mediterranean Deli and VIA Cafe & Bar in Edina. Rooftop Venues

Nightlife: Stairways to heaven
By TOM HORGEN, Star Tribune
Last update: June 5, 2008 - 2:42 PM

The best outdoor dining and drinking is the rooftop experience -- sitting high above the world and enjoying a cool breeze.
These days, the Twin Cities has a bunch of rooftop patios, from perennial all-stars like Stella's Fish Cafe to those just making their debuts. This summer's most high-profile opening is definitely Seven Sushi's rooftop in downtown Minneapolis. The folks at Seven have been working on their enormous Seven Sky Bar for a long time -- and it shows.

SEVEN SKY BAR
The spot: It's huge, and they've spared no expense. No plastic chairs here -- seating is a mix of cast-aluminum swivel chairs and eye-popping red super sofas. There's a fire pit, pergolas, two granite-top bars and a movie screen. Oh, and downtown's tallest buildings loom overhead.
Best seat: "On one of the red couches in front of the fire pit, where you can see the beautiful skyline and people enjoying themselves," says owner David Koch.

CHAMBERS
The spot: Five stories up, Chambers has an excellent nighttime view of the action on Hennepin. The boutique hotel plans some fun changes to its chic rooftop bar this summer.
Best seat: "A corner table where you can see both directions up and down Hennepin and 9th," says general manager Cliff Atkinson.
